LEWISBURG, Pa. – Led by a 3-over-par 73 from junior Paige Richter, the Bucknell women's golf team made its 2024-25 season debut with a 299 team score on Friday at the Bucknell Invitational. The Bison sit in second place in a 13-team field, trailing Penn by four strokes with two rounds still to come. It was a strong debut for the young team, as six of the eight Bison in action scored in the 70s with three sitting in the top 10 individually.
Richter, a two-time All-Patriot League selection who has led the team in scoring average in each of her first two seasons, is tied for third place on the individual leaderboard. After a bogey-bogey start on the tough opening stretch at the Bucknell Golf Club, Richter played the next nine holes in 1-under with birdies at 6 and 11. She closed with four straight pars to shoot 73.
Senior Tara Thomas, playing as an individual, also shot 73 thanks to four birdies. Nicole Yun followed with a 74 with birdies at 3 and 17. Yun was just two shots off the lead until a tough double at the last.
Bucknell's top group also counted a 76 from freshman Sophia Bardunias in her Bison debut and a 76 from sophomore Lila Smith. Katherine Vice shot 78.
Freshman Katrina von Behren made her collegiate debut as an indie and carded an 80, and Erin Drahnak shot 86.
Penn leads the field after posting a 15-over 295. Third-place Towson shot 300 to sit one stroke behind Bucknell, and Patriot League rivals Lehigh (301) and Holy Cross (309) round out the top five.
The tournament continues with 18-hole rounds coming up on Saturday and Sunday.
