LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell junior Freddie Lapworth earned his second straight Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week citation on Monday after he kept another clean sheet in Saturday's 1-0 win over American.
The win moved the Bison to 2-0-1 in Patriot League play and into sole possession of first place after three rounds of conference play.
Lapworth was officially credited with two saves in the win over American, the second of which was a terrific leaping effort to tip Nicholas Shirley's close-range header over the bar with the Bison protecting a 1-0 lead in the second half. Lapworth kept his box organized as the Eagles threw waves of pressure forward late in the match, especially in the final 12 minutes after a red card put the Bison down to 10 men.
Lapworth now leads the Patriot League in shutouts (4) and goals-against average (1.00) while ranking second in save percentage (.784). The Bison have conceded only eight goals in eight matches this season, with six of those coming in two games against Cornell and Saint Francis.
Bucknell has a big home match coming up on Tuesday against No. 6 West Virginia, and then the Bison return to Patriot League play at home against Lehigh on Saturday night.
