Women's Tennis Sends Three Doubles Teams to Semifinals on First Day of SJU Invitational

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Bucknell women's tennis team opened the weekend with a strong showing in doubles play at the three-day Saint Joseph's Invitational Friday evening, going 3-1 against opponents from Drexel, Fairfield, Harford and Saint Joseph's. Mirra Manolov also earned a win in singles, while most Bison received first-round byes in singles play.
Results
Two Bison doubles pairings picked up wins in the Crimson Flight. Natalie Devraj and Caroline Marcus defeated Bia Ibrahim and Sofiya Snitko of Drexel, 8-3. Whitney King and Abby Platt also advanced with an 8-3 win over Drexel's Rebecca Fiedler and Anastasia Kavounov. Devraj and Marcus will take on Fairfield's winning pair in the semifinals Saturday morning, while King and Platt will face the hosting Hawks' top team.
In the Grey Flight, Cameron King and Jaycie Mair earned an 8-0 win over Harford's Daniela Aguilar and Avila Pedilla. They will also face a Saint Joseph's team in the flight's doubles semifinals Saturday morning.
In the Black Flight singles, Manolov earned a convincing 6-0, 6-0 win over Harford's Padilla. She, along with Devraj, Cameron King, Mair, Whitney King and Platt, who each received byes, will be competing in the singles quarterfinals on Saturday. Tori Allen and Marcus will compete in the consolation bracket after suffering singles losses on Friday.
The tournament resumes at 9 a.m. Saturday morning.
