
Men’s Tennis Unbeaten in Singles on Day One of Bucknell Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's tennis team enjoyed a dominating opening day of the 2024-25 season, going 18-0 in singles and 3-2 in doubles at the Bucknell Invitational on a sunny day at the Varsity Tennis Courts.
Discounting one medical default, the Bison dropped only two sets on the way to the perfect day In singles, as nine players got in two matches each. Amar Tahirovic, a two-time All-Patriot Leaguer who returns to the No. 1 spot in the lineup, won his two matches by 6-1, 6-1 and 6-2, 6-2 counts over Mount St. Mary's and Lafayette, respectively.
No. 3 man Oscar Bain only dropped two games all day, winning at love against Mount St. Mary's and 6-0, 6-2 against Millersville. Returning starters Brendan McDonald and Liam Kilmer also won twice in straight sets, and Adam Stavrakas came from behind for a 3-6, 7-5, 12-10 win over Lafayette's Nicolas Mackenzie, and the Bison junior later won 6-3, 6-0 against Millersville.
It was an impressive debut showing from Bucknell's four freshmen, who combined to win all of their singles tilts in straight sets. Oumar Diallo won his first collegiate match 6-0, 6-1 over Mount St. Mary's, and later he took a three-setter from a Saint Francis opponent. Felix Steindl, Nelson Alapi, and Shiv Singh also won handily.
Five doubles teams all played once on Saturday. The tandems of McDonald/Steindl, Stavrakas/Alapi, and Singh/Kilmer were all victorious.
The tournament resumes on Sunday at 8 a.m. The Bison men will reverse the schedule and play one singles match and two doubles contests to finish the weekend.
