RESULTS
LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's tennis team won every contested singles match – a perfect 27-for-27 – in a dominant opening weekend at the Bucknell Invitational. The Bison also went 9-4 in doubles, and all four freshmen made successful debuts over the course of two sun-filled days at the Varsity Tennis Courts.
Nine Bison combined to go 18-0 in singles on Saturday, with the lone exception an injury withdrawal by sophomore Will Robinson. Those nine Bucknell players combined to win 18 of 19 sets.
The only player to win a set from the Bison was Noah Potts of Saint Francis, who took the opening set 6-0 from freshman Nelson Alapi, but Alapi shook it off and stormed back to take the second set 6-4 and the super tiebreaker 10-7.
Amar Tahirovic (6-0, 6-1 SFU), Adam Stavrakas (6-0, 6-4 SFU), Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega (6-4, 6-2 SFU), Brendan McDonald (6-2, 6-4 Mount St. Mary's), Liam Kilmer (6-1, 6-1 Lafayette), Oumar Diallo (6-1, 6-0 Lafayette), Felix Steiner (6-3, 6-0 Lafayette), and Shiv Singh (6-2, 6-3 Lafayette) all won handily.
The men's group also played two rounds of doubles on Sunday, and the tandems of McDonald/Steindl and Stavrakas/Alapi both won twice to complete perfect 3-0 weekends. Tahirovic/Bain and Singh/Kilmer both went 1-1.
Bucknell is back in action next weekend in Pittsburgh at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational.
