About the Bison
- Bucknell makes its traditional season-opening trip to Hamilton, N.Y., for the Alex Lagowitz Memorial this weekend at Seven Oaks GC. This is one of the first college tournaments of the season and features a strong 15-team field. The Bison will see Patriot League rivals, Colgate, Lehigh, and Navy.
- Eleventh-year head coach Mike Binney will send out senior Michael Rudnick, juniors James Key and Lyman Brackett, sophomore Hayden Quinn, and freshmen Jack Hartman and Patrick Pritsios this weekend.
- Rudnick earned the No. 1 spot in the lineup by winning the team's 54-hole qualifier with rounds of 73-66-69 for a 2-under-par total of 208. Hartman finished three shots back at 211 (70-70-71), while Key (73-74-67) and Quinn (69-75-70) tied for third at 214.
- Rudnick (75.2), Key (75.3), and James Robbins (75.5) bring the lowest 2023-24 scoring averages among returning players.
- The Bison must make up for the loss of its top two players from last season in Alex Creamean and Andes Barraza, but Hartman and Pritsios are two promising newcomers. They were classmates at Gonzaga College High School in Washington, D.C., and both have loads of junior golf accolades.
- Hartman is a second-generation Bison golfer, as his father Josh was a two-time All-Patriot League honoree and a two-time Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year while playing for coach Tommy Thompson from 1994-98.
- Bucknell has competed in Colgate's fall tournament every year since 2002 (except for 2011, when the event was rained out, and 2020, when it was canceled due to COVID-19). Prior to 2002, Colgate and Cornell ran a combined event for several years, utilizing both schools' courses.
- The Bison have fared well in this event, winning it in 2004 and 2006 while finishing in the top four in 13 of 20 years. Brian Bartow is Bucknell's lone individual champion here. He won the Colgate Invitational in 2009.
- Bucknell finished fourth out of 13 teams at Colgate last fall, posting scores of 301-287-288. James Robbins was the low Bison in 12th place with a 219 total (75-70-74). Hayden Quinn (75-77-72) and Lyman Brackett (74-80-72) are also back after playing at Seven Oaks last season.
- Yale won last year's tournament with an 11-under 853. Runner-up Villanova was 17 shots back.
- After this weekend's event at Colgate, the Bison will head to Annapolis for the Navy Invitational on Sept. 21-22.
- Bucknell has five tournaments on the fall slate, culminating with the Bucknell Invitational Oct. 13-15.
