Women's Basketball Announces 2024-25 Non-Conference Schedule
8/29/2024 12:05:00 PM | Women's Basketball
LEWISBURG, Pa.- The Bucknell Bison women's basketball program starts the 2024-25 campaign with a vigorous and potent non-conference schedule. Bucknell will play two Power Four teams, hit the open road six times, and start the season away from Sojka Pavilion for four games. The slate should have the Bison women well-prepared for the various challenges posed by Patriot League play. Bucknell will hit the rewind button on five opponents from 2023-24.Â
"As always, we looked for opportunities to challenge ourselves in non-conference," said head coach Trevor Woodruff. "Our objective is preparing ourselves for Patriot League competition by playing against diverse styles. Starting with four straight road games will give us a good idea of where we are in our development and the slate of home games should all be very competitive and entertaining for our fans."
Bucknell opens at Penn State for the second-straight season when the Bison head down Interstate 80 on Nov. 4. The Orange & Blue fell 94-51 last year. Bucknell remains in the Keystone State on Nov. 9 to play at Pittsburgh. The teams last met in 2017 when the Panthers won 57-39. Pittsburgh holds a 2-1 series advantage.Â
The Bison depart Pennsylvania for New Jersey on Nov. 13 to play Northeast Conference (NEC) foe Fairleigh Dickinson University (FDU). Bucknell scratched out a 49-44 win last year, moving to a 7-1 series lead. Three days later, the team completes its opening four-game trek with a visit to newly christened Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) member Merrimack. The Bison swamped the Warriors 64-44 last year at Sojka in the series's opening salvo.Â
On Nov. 20, Bucknell opens the Sojka slate with a visit from a fellow US Route 15 school Mount St. Mary's. The Mountaineers defeated Bucknell 55-46 last season. The Orange & Blue remain in Lewisburg three days later to host Youngstown State. The Penguins hold an 8-4 series lead but the Bison won the last meeting in 2018-19.Â
The Bison return to the Pittsburgh area for the second time six days later to face Robert Morris on Black Friday. Bucknell won 68-54 over the Colonials in 2023-24 and own a 5-2 series advantage. Tuana Coskun will be familiar with the RMU court, as she transferred to Bucknell from Robert Morris.Â
Bucknell returns to Sojka on Dec. 4 for the annual Education Day match. The game will start at 11 a.m. and provides a Division I experience for local schoolchildren. Sojka Pavilion echoes with their exciting screams. Vermont travels down to Lewisburg. The Bison and Catamounts clash for the first time since 2021-22. Bucknell owns a 2-0 advantage.Â
The Bison stay in Sojka to welcome Ivy League opponent Dartmouth on Dec. 6. It is the first time the programs have faced off and the Bison will now have played every Ivy League school in women's basketball. Bucknell has played an Ivy team every year since 2021-22.Â
On Dec. 10, the Orange & Blue return to Western Pennsylvania for a third time to face Atlantic 10 foe Duquesne. Pittsburgh-based Bison fans will have the opportunity to see the Bison three times in 2024-25. The Dukes own a 3-2 series lead and it is the first matchup since 1998-99.Â
After finals wrap up, the Bison give the local fans an early Christmas present by completing the non-conference schedule against Hofstra on Dec. 21 in Sojka. It is another revived series as the last contest occurred in 1999-00. The Pride prevailed, 87-74.
Information regarding season and single-game ticket sales will be announced in the coming weeks.
