Two Early Goals Spark Men’s Soccer to 2-0 Win at Robert Morris in Season Opener

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – It was a dream start for the Bucknell men's soccer team, as Drew Roskos and Cade McGrath both scored off in the opening half-hour to lead the Bison to a 2-0 away win over Robert Morris on Thursday afternoon at the North Athletic Complex.
Freddie Lapworth made seven saves in goal for the Bison, who won their season opener on the road for the second year in a row and avenged a 3-2 home defeat to the Colonials from a season ago.
The freshman Roskos, who scored 84 career goals at the high school level in New Jersey, needed only 17 minutes to open his college account. Roskos headed home David Krumov's free kick from the right flank to give the Bison the league on their very first shot of the new season.
Only 13 minutes later, it was 2-0 after McGrath finished a Jack Lucas delivery at the back post. It was the third career goal and first since 2022 for McGrath, who moved from forward to wingback in the spring.
Lapworth was rock solid in goal with the seven saves as the speedy Colonials applied some second-half pressure.
"We scored two great goals and would have liked a third to put the game away, which made for a few nervy moments in the second half," said coach Dave Brandt. "Robert Morris is an athletic team with a ton of speed, and they are always dangerous on the counter attack. They pressed in the second half and we were a bit tentative, but then we had some moments of our own on the counter. Freddie was a strong presence in goal, and I thought the five in the back played well against a team that is super dangerous."
Bucknell will now have a week off before hosting Mount St. Mary's in the season opener next Thursday.
