Women's Basketball Hires Shelby Case for Basketball Operations/Assistant Coach

LEWISBURG, Pa.- The Bucknell Bison women's basketball team added to their team staff by hiring former University of Illinois-Chicago (UIC) standout and Valparaiso graduate assistant Shelby Case for the program's Basketball Operations/Assistant Coach. Case replaces Molly Gillis in operation duties, who departed after two years of excellent service to pursue other opportunities.Â
"Shelby was the perfect candidate to fill this position," said head coach Trevor Woodruff. "Her ability to help us both administratively and on the court will provide a boost to our staff."
Case delivers five years of ideal Division I experience to the Bison program, having spent time as a player and a coaching staff member, thus providing two unique viewpoints in her assignments.Â
"I am excited to be joining Coach Woodruff and his staff at Bucknell," said Case. "The experience that they all bring to the game of basketball is going to grow my knowledge greatly. The environment at Bucknell has been welcoming from the administration to the student athletes, having the support from everyone in the athletic department is invaluable to me. I am thrilled to be a part of the Bucknell family. There is so much to learn from in the position I am in with those that are surrounding me. I am thankful to Coach Woodruff for this opportunity."Â
The former Flame forward recorded three years (2019-20, 2020-21, and 2021-22) in the UIC colors, playing in 35 games and starting 18 contests. Unfortunately, she missed all of 2021-22, due to injury. She averaged 16.5 minutes per game and scored 96 career points. Case owned a presence under the basket, collecting 78 rebounds. She displayed atypical range for a post player, hitting ten three-pointers.Â
After graduation, Case, like UIC, joined the Missouri Valley Conference when she was hired by the Valparaiso Beacons as a graduate assistant and worked there for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons. Valpo posted non-conference wins over Chicago State and Southern Miss during her tenure but lost to UIC in back-to-back conference tournaments.
A native of McCordsville, Ind., Case earned her bachelor's degree in criminology, law, and justice from UIC and a master's degree in sports administration from Valpo.Â
