Where: University of Kentucky-Lexington, Ky.
When: Wednesday-Saturday, May 22-25, 2024
"We have four female athletes competing in the first round, including two who were there last year (Hull and Tereska) plus two freshmen (Bliss and Sharp)," said head coach Kevin Donner. All four had outstanding seasons and they will try to extend their seasons to get to Eugene (home of the national championships) in two weeks. Having four athletes there with three returning for the next two & three seasons is outstanding for our program."
Bliss's rookie season has been a campaign for the history books. The freshman flinger has already placed herself second in the Bison record book for the javelin throw, won gold at the Patriot League Outdoor Championships, and sits fifth in the Eastern standings. Bliss joins the long, almost hereditary, tradition of Bucknell javelin throwers to compete in the NCAA. The Bison have had 16 NCAA qualifiers for the javelin entering this season, including Bucknell's record holder Maura Fiamoncini, who won All-American honors three times in the event.
Hull looks to extend her record-breaking career by reaching nationals. Her jump of 5-5 3/4 finished 43rd at last year's East Preliminaries. This season, Hull comes into the competition seeded 29th. She owns Bucknell's all-time mark with a jump of 5-9 1/4. Hull won gold in the high jump at the Patriot League Outdoor Championships. She and Amy Mantush (2007 & 2009) are the only Bison to qualify for the high jump.
Sharp has sparkled in her rookie campaign setting the Bucknell record in the discus and shot put. She finished second in the shot put and fifth in the discus at the Patriot League Outdoor Championships. Sharp is seeded 48th in the discus and 38th in the shot put. She becomes the first Bison since Sarah Bella (2009) to qualify for the discus and shot put in the same season.
Tereska followed her sensational freshman campaign with a solid sophomore season. The second-year thrower moved to third all-time in Bucknell lists for the javelin. She placed fourth in the javelin at the Patriot League Outdoor Championships. Tereska is seeded 24th. Last year, she placed 38th after being seeded 43rd. Tereska become the first Bison since Fiamoncini to repeat as a NCAA qualifier for the javelin.
With the latest five entries, the Bucknell women have accumulated 65 outdoor NCAA regional qualifers. The Bison have six NCAA championship qualifers and five All-American honors.
