SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Army took two of three in doubles and secured wins at each singles spot to hand the Bison a 7-0 loss at the Central PA Tennis Center Saturday afternoon. Anna Lajos forced a third set at first singles, but her effort was as close as the Bison got against an Army team that improved to 4-1 in Patriot League play and 16-8 overall this season.
Prior to Saturday's match, the Bison celebrated the careers of three graduating seniors: Tyne Miller, Kate Novak and Madi Sebulsky. The trio has been part of 38 Bucknell victories, including a pair of Patriot League Tournament wins. All three seniors were in the lineup against the Black Knights.
Army posted wins at second and third doubles to clinch the point before events on court one could finish. Whitney King and Abby Platt were neck and neck with Army's Cooper Jackson and Paige Herremans, trailing 4-5 to the 2023 Patriot League Doubles Team of the Year. King and Platt defeated the pair of Black Knights last season en route to a 6-0 mark against league opponents. This year's rematch went unfinished.
Lajos battled back after dropping the first set against Jackson at first singles and won the second set 6-3. Jackson prevailed in the third with a narrow 11-9 decision. Before that, Army won 6-1, 6-0 at court six over Novak, 6-1, 6-1 at court five over Sebulsky, and 6-1, 6-1 on court three over Miller to clinch the dual. Tori Allen fell 6-4, 6-4 at fourth singles, and Platt fell 6-3, 6-3 at second singles.
Bucknell is back in action on Sunday, April 7 to host Lehigh at the Varsity Tennis Courts at 1 p.m. It's Bucknell's final home competition of the season.
