LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell sophomore Adam Stavrakas won all four of his singles and doubles matches to help the Bison men's tennis team sweep Lehigh and Lafayette over the weekend, and on Tuesday he earned his first Patriot League Player of the Week citation.
In Saturday's 5-2 win over Lehigh, a match featuring several tight contests, the Athens, Greece native came back after dropping the first set and outlasted Marc Blekhman 9-7 in a third-set tiebreaker at No. 2 singles. The team result had not been determined until deep into that tiebreaker, but Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega finished off his win on Court 3 moments before Stavrakas got to match point, and he finished off the 5-2 final.
Stavrakas and Bain also won their doubles match by a 6-4 count in the No. 2 spot.
One day later, Stavrakas finished his work in much quicker fashion, blanking Lafayette's Jake Magnusson 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. He and Bain also won 6-1 at No. 1 doubles.
Stavrakas has now hit the 20-win mark in both singles and doubles this season. He is 20-10 in singles and 20-15 in doubles.
The Bison are now 15-6 on the campaign, and they will be the No. 3 seed at this week's Patriot League Championship at West Point. Bucknell will take on No. 6 Colgate at 12:45 p.m. on Friday in one of four quarterfinal matchups. The Bison were 7-0 winners against the Raiders on March 29 in Lewisburg.
