Women’s Golf in 5th Place After Opening Round of Patriot League Championship

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's golf team counted three scores in the 70s and opened with a 313 team score on day one of the 2024 Patriot League Championship at the Bucknell Golf Club on Friday. The Bison are in fifth place, eight shots behind Richmond for fourth, with 36 holes still to play over the weekend.
Scoring conditions were challenging with chilly temperatures accompanied by some light rain in the later portion of the round. The 36-player field combined for only 32 birdies on Friday, and the average score was 78.2 on the par-70 track.
Sophomore Paige Richter led the Bison with a 76, and she sits in a tie for 10th place on the individual leaderboard. After posting a 40 on the front nine, Richter birdied the long par-3 10th and shot 2-over 36 on the back side.
Bucknell's three other counting scores were all from freshmen, as Nicole Yun followed with a 77, Lila Smith shot 79, and Sofia Nogalo carded an 81. Senior Kelsey Yi also posted an 81, and Katherine Vice shot 87 in the play-six, count-four format.
Navy turned in a 295 team total in the early wave of tee times, and that mark held up as the best in the field. Lehigh is second at 300, followed by Boston University (301), Richmond (305), Bucknell, and Holy Cross (321).
The individual leaderboard is jam-packed, with five players tied for the lead. Navy's Stephanie Lee and Sue Lee, Richmond's Olivia Wilkie, Boston University's Amy Han, and Lehigh's Olivia Lu all shot 1-over-par 74. Richter is one of seven players within three shots of the lead.
Bucknell will play alongside Richmond and Holy Cross in round two on Saturday, with tee times ranging from 8:30-9:20 a.m.
