About the Bison
- The Bucknell women's golf team will be participating in the Navy Spring Invitational this weekend, a final tuneup prior to next week's Patriot League Championship.
- Coach Laura Tyler-Cook will send out Paige Richter, Nicole Yun, Kelsey Yi, Tara Thomas, and Cristina Canales this weekend.
- Bucknell is coming off a third-place finish at the Youngstown State Invitational. Freshman Katherine Vice shot 77-75 in a career-best fifth-place finish, and on Wednesday she was named Patriot League Golfer of the Week.
- Bucknell shot 313-301 at Youngstown and finished one stroke behind the host Penguins for second place. The low round of the tournament for the Bison was a 73 from Yun in the second round. She opened with a 77 and would have finished in third place, but a scorecard mishap after the first round resulted in a disqualification.
- Kelsey Yi (78-78) and Tara Thomas (80-80) will also be playing for the second straight week.
- Richter got the week off at Youngstown, but she has been Bucknell's low player throughout the year. Her 77.4 average for the full season is the best on the team, one stroke ahead of Sofia Nogalo's 78.4.
- Richter shot 72-74 and finished third at the SMSU Spring Classic on March 11-12. She was tied for the lead with three holes to play, but Saint Leo's Elena Verticchio birdied the final two holes. Richter was named the Patriot League Golfer of the Week after her strong performance.
- The Bison finished in the top five in the team standings in all five of its fall tournaments. Their 307.7 fall scoring average established a new school record. The previous low mark for a fall season was 310.1 in 2018.Â
- Bucknell has played in regular-season events hosted by Navy on eight occasions, four times in the spring (2016, 2018, 2021, 2023) and four times in the fall (2016, 2021, 2022, 2023). In addition, The Bison have appeared in three Patriot League Championships hosted by the Mids, finishing fifth in 2022, fourth in 2018, and fifth in 2015.
- The Bison finished in a tie for fourth place out of 15 teams at the Navy Fall Invitational in late-September. Sofia Nogalo led the way with a T-8th finish with rounds of 79-74. Nicole Yun (79-76, T-19th) and Paige Richter (77-79, T-22nd) also posted two rounds in the 70s as the Bison compiled team scores of 314-310. The 310 was Bucknell's best-ever mark at the USNA GC.
- At the 2023 Navy Spring Invitational, Richter braved difficult weather conditions to shoot 72-74 and finish in fourth place. The first-round 72 was Bucknell's best-ever on the challenging USNA GC, bettering Sun Woo Jeon's 74 from the first round of the 2022 Patriot League Championship.Â
- Bucknell will host the 2024 Patriot League Championship on Apr. 19-21.
