Bucknell piled up 12 hits in the game, which was pushed back three hours to a 6 p.m. start due to rain in the area earlier in the day. Swenson also doubled and notched the second three-hit game of his young career. Grant Voytovich and Tyler Dunn had two hits apiece, and eight of Bucknell's nine starters collected at least one hit.
On the mound, the Bison (6-7) used two freshmen and a sophomore, and they combined for 15 strikeouts against a high-powered Fighting Camels (10-4) lineup. Freshman starter Jack O'Malley fanned nine but walked five in his 4.0 innings of work, and he departed with an 8-4 lead. Classmate Jonathan Adelmann (1-1) was strong in relief, allowing one run on three hits while striking out five in 3.2 innings, but he allowed the go-ahead run on a wild pitch in the bottom of the sixth and was charged with the loss.
O'Malley struck out three in a scoreless first inning, but the Camels scored twice on a hit batsman and walk with the bases loaded. Bucknell stormed in front in the top of the third, with Swenson starting and finishing the eight-run outburst.
He led off the frame with a double up the left-center alley and scored on Sean Keys' single with one out. Voytovich followed with an RBI double, and he scored on Dunn's base hit the other way. After a Billy Kender walk and a wild pitch, Michael Chiavarallo drove in a run with an infield hit. Ryan Facinelli made it 6-2 with a two-run double, and then Swenson finished it off with a blast to left-center, chasing Campbell starter Cooper Clark.
Grant Knipp got two runs back for the Camels with a long home run to left in the fourth inning, and they tied it with four runs on only two base hits in the fifth. Mikey Myro, who was coming off an outstanding mid-week start against Le Moyne, came out of the bullpen and was quickly in trouble thanks to a double, a walk, and a bunt single. One run scored on a wild pitch and another on an error. After Adelmann relieved Myro, Payton Howard lifted a sacrifice fly to center, and another run scored on an errant relay throw.
Dalen Thompson led off the sixth with a single and later scored on a two-out wild pitch to give Campbell a 9-8 lead.
Packy Bradley was strong in relief, earning his third save of the season with three scoreless innings. He retired the first seven hitters he faced, but the Bison put the tying and go-ahead runs on base in the ninth. With one out, Dunn singled and Kender walked, but Bradley retired the next two hitters to end it.
Drew Siegner (1-0) pitched 3.1 shutout innings in the middle part of the game. Like Bucknell, Campbell's three pitchers combined for 15 strikeouts.
The third and final game of the series will take place on Sunday at 1 p.m.
