LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's tennis team claimed the doubles point and jumped out to an early 2-0 lead over visiting Colgate, and the two teams sat tied at 3-3, but the Raiders went on to clinch the 4-3 win in Saturday's Patriot League dual, which moved from the Varsity Tennis Courts to indoors as the rain fell in Lewisburg.
The dual came down to Tyne Miller and Addie Eklund, who sat tied at 3-3 in the third set at fourth singles before things moved indoors. Eklund went on to capture the 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 decision. It was Colgate's fourth singles win after the two teams went back and forth throughout the day, and it was one of four singles matches that reached a third set.
Setting the scene for a dual filled with narrow margins, Colgate picked up a win at first singles with a 7-6 decision over Whitney King and Abby Platt. Anna Lajos and Mirra Manolov picked up a 6-1 win at third doubles, and Madi Sebulsky and Caroline Marcus clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 win on court two.
King then bounced back in singles play and defeated Sophia Montero at first singles, 6-3, 6-2, to give the Bison a 2-0 lead. Colgate responded with a three-set win on court two and a win on court six to even the score at 2-2.
Abby Platt gave the Bison back the lead by defeating Carina Cristobal 2-6, 6-0, 7-5 at third singles, but Colgate answered once again. Podlas narrowly edged Manolov 6-7 (7-0), 1-6, 6-4 to tie the dual at 3-3.
Colgate's win on court four sealed the match, as the Raiders improved to 9-8 (2-1 PL) on the season, and Bucknell fell to 8-10 (0-3).
Bucknell is back at home next Saturday, April 6 to host Army at 1 p.m. The Bison will celebrate Senior Day prior to the match.
