LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's tennis team rolled to a 7-0 victory over Colgate in its Patriot League debut on Friday afternoon at the Varsity Tennis Courts. The Bison won their fourth straight match to get to 11-4 on the season, while the Raiders fell to 4-11 overall and 1-1 in the Patriot League.
The No. 2 doubles tandem of Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega and Adam Stavrakas set the tone for the day with a 6-1 win in only 19 minutes. Amar Tahirovic and Brendan McDonald followed a few minutes later with a 6-2 verdict on Court 1, and the Bison won the doubles point for the 12th time in 15 matches this spring.
Stavrakas provided the clinching point with a hard-fought 6-4, 6-4 win over Josh Israel at No. 2 singles. Earlier, Tahirovic (1), Bain (3), and Tim Zelikovsky (6) won in straight sets to put Bucknell on the brink of victory. Zelikovsky, who is now 23-2 on the season, won his 65th career match to move past Max Kane into sole possession of sixth place on Bucknell's all-time list.
Brendan McDonald at No. 4 and Liam Kilmer at No. 5 both dropped their opening sets but stormed back to win their matches to complete the 7-0 sweep.
The Bison return to action on Sunday to face a red-hot Boston University squad that is coming off a win over defending-champion Navy. First serve is set for 11 a.m. at the Varsity Tennis Courts.
