LEWISBURG, Pa.- Bucknell softball pitcher Madison Roukey won all three games against Lafayette this past weekend and earned Bison of the Week for her hurling. It is Roukey's first career Bison of the Week honor and she becomes the first softball player to win it since Kelly Toomey on April 4, 2021.Â
"Maddie deserves this award," said head coach Sarah Caffrey. "She has been so steady in the circle all season. She has been such a reliable and dominant pitcher this year, and it has been so fun to watch it all come together for her. She embodies our core values of working hard, competing, and doing things right. I'm so proud that she is seeing her hard work pay off, and I can't wait to see what she does the rest of the year."Â
Roukey dominated the series, throwing 17 innings, tossing ten strikeouts, and only yielding eight hits. She started the first and third games, hurling complete games in both outings. The junior pitcher entered in relief for the second game and pitched three scoreless innings to earn the win in the 2-1 eight-inning contest.Â
The three wins gave Bucknell its first opening weekend sweep since 2021. The sweep increased the Orange & Blue Crew's league-best regular season winning streak to nine games. The Bison are seeking back-to-back returns to the Patriot League Tournament for the first time since 2018-19.Â
Roukey's six wins are responsible for half of Bucknell's 12 wins and tie her season-best result from 2023. Her 1.93 ERA is fourth best in the Patriot League and has helped Bucknell's staff rank second in the circuit for the category. An emerging strikeout artist, her 66 putouts slot second in the PL. She is fourth in the league for three other stats: wins (6), complete games (5), and games started (12).Â
Bucknell softball travels to Penn State tomorrow for a 6 p.m. game and then welcomes Army for the opening home games of 2024 on Saturday and Sunday.Â
