Men's Tennis Completes 2-0 Weekend with Road Win at Saint Joseph's, 5-2

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Bucknell men's tennis team secured a 2-0 weekend with a 5-2 victory over Saint Joseph's on Sunday. The Bison took the doubles point by winning two of three matches before capturing three straight singles victories to clinch the dual. Bucknell improved to 10-4, including a 7-0 win over Duquesne on Saturday, while Saint Joseph's fell to 5-9.
Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega and Adam Stavrakas got the day started with a 6-2 win at second doubles. The Hawks fought back, claiming a 6-4 win at first doubles, but Tim Zelikovsky and Liam Kilmer clinched the point with a hard-fought 7-5 victory on court three. The Bison have now taken the doubles point in three straight duals.
Amar Tahirovic moved to 2-0 in singles for the weekend and finished first on court one with a 6-3, 6-2 decision over Justus Agbo. Kilmer followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Jack Campbell on court four, and Zelikovsky clinched the Bison victory with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Stergios Papadopoulos on court five.
Saint Joseph's took the next two points, earning wins at third and second doubles. Bain forced a third set with a win in the second before surrendering his match to Ernesto Ruy on court two. Bucknell freshman Will Robinson put a bow on the dual with a 6-4, 6-4 win on court six over Mark Rubin.
Bucknell has now won three consecutive duals and has come out on top in seven of its last nine.
Looking ahead, the Bison open Patriot League play on Friday, March 29 when Colgate visits Lewisburg. Boston U. then comes to town on Sunday, March 31.
