Women’s Golf Runner-Up at SMSU Spring Classic; Richter Finishes Third

RESULTS
LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – Backed by a third-place finish from sophomore Paige Richter, the Bucknell women's golf team took runner-up honors at the SMSU Spring Classic, hosted by Southwest Minnesota State at the Wigwam Resort.
Richter was in a three-way tie for the lead with three holes to play, but Saint Leo's Elena Verticchio birdied the final two holes to win medalist honors at 1-under-par 143 (70-73). Paige Hoffman of Northwest Missouri was second at 144 (70-74), and Richter ended up third at 146 (72-74).
After starting her round with a pair of bogeys, Richter bounced back with birdies at holes 3 and 4 and added another at 8 to post 1-under 36 on a front nine that contains four par-5s. Richer was joined in the lineup by four first-year players who all finished in the top-20. Sofia Nogalo matched Richter's 74 on Tuesday thanks to a 2-under 33 on the back nine. She finished in a tie for ninth place at 153 total.
Katherine Vice tied her career best with a 75, Nicole Yun finished with a 77, and Lila Smith shot 79. Smith finished in 14th place and led the entire field in par-5 scoring at 4-under for the week, while Yun and Vice both finished T-17th.
Bucknell's final-round 300 was the best in the field, but the Bison began the day needing to make up 11 strokes on Saint Leo, the 14th-ranked team in Division II. The Lions posted 303 in round two and held off Bucknell by eight shots. Northwest Missouri was third, 15 shots behind the Bison.
Bucknell is back in action on March 25-26 at the William & Mary Invitational at Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Va.
