
Barraza’s 67 Highlights Day One at Surf Club Invitational for Bison Golf Team

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Andres Barraza posted rounds of 71 and 67, highlighting the Bucknell men's golf team's busy opening day at The Surf Club Invitational. Barraza is in seventh place in a field of 110 players, and the Bison are tied for tied for 14th place as a team after posting rounds of 298 and 293.
Barraza was coming off a record-setting performance at the Loyola Intercollegiate when he finished at 10-under over 54 holes in a sixth-place finish. The sophomore was back at it again on Monday at The Surf and Beach Club. He started the day with three birdies and 12 pars on the way to an even-par 72. In his afternoon round, Barraza started with an eagle at the par-5 first hole and added four more birdies. The only blemish on his card was a double-bogey at No. 4, but he quickly responded with birdies at 5 and 8 and then made two more back-to-back at 11 and 12.
Barraza's 4-under 138 total puts him four shots behind the leader, Ray Dennehy of Connecticut, who shot 70-64. Addison Beam of tournament host Appalachian State is one shot back.
Elsewhere for Bucknell on Monday, James Key shot 77-73, Alex Creamean shot 76-75, Michael Rudnick carded 74-78, and Hayden Quinn posted 83-80. James Robbins (78-71) and Lyman Brackett (79-76) played as individuals. Robbins fired a 3-under 32 on the course's back nine in round two.
UConn raced out to a big lead in the team standings. The Huskies sit at 16-under 552 (278-274), with Radford second at 560. Appalachian State (565), Butler (566), Queens (567), and Delaware (567) are also under par heading into Tuesday's final round.
