About the Bison
- Bucknell makes a Spring Break trip to the Myrtle Beach Area for the Surf Club Invitational on Monday and Tuesday. Appalachian State is hosting a quality 17-team field that includes two Patriot League squads, Bucknell and Holy Cross.
- The Bison are coming off a 10th-place finish at the Loyola Intercollegiate at Palm Valley GC in Arizona. After opening with a 294 team tally, the Bison followed with under-par rounds of 281-283 to finish at 6-under 858 for the week. That is tied for the third-best 54-hole total in team history.
- Sophomore Andres Barraza and freshman Alex Creamean made history in the desert. Barraza's 10-under 206 (71-67-68) was good for a sixth-place finish, and it was the low 54-hole total in relation to par in team history. He led the entire field with 22 birdies.
- Creamean broke the Bucknell 18-hole scoring record with an 8-under 64 in the second round. He shot 74-64-71 for the week and finished T-8th at 7-under 209. Creamean has now broken par in nine of his last 12 rounds dating back to the fall season, and his 64 was the low round of the entire tournament. Â
- Michael Rudnick shot 77-74-69 and was Bucknell's No. 3 man in the tournament.
- Barraza, Creamean, Rudnick, James Key, and Hayden Quinn will comprise Bucknell's five-man lineup this week. Lyman Brackett and James Robbins will play as individuals.
- This is the third of five spring tournaments leading up to the 2024 Patriot League Championship, which will be held this year at Saucon Valley Country Club.
- The Bison competed in five fall tournaments, finishing in the top four in four of them while posting an average round of 292.3. Their highest finish was third at the Bucknell Invitational in October, and they finished out the fall campaign with a fourth-place showing at the Veterans Intercollegiate at Sebonack GC on Long Island.
- Creamean capped a tremendous first fall season with a win at the Veterans Intercollegiate. Creamean fired a pair of 2-under-par 70s for a three-shot win, and he became the first freshman in Bucknell history to win a tournament.
- Creamean broke par in five of his last six fall rounds, lowering his season scoring average to 72.076. That was just a fraction of a stroke behind Chris Tanabe (72.066 in 2019) and Blake Wisdom (72.071) for the team record for low average in a fall season. CreSurf Clubamean's mark was the best-ever for a freshman in his first semester of competition. Â
- Bucknell finished 13th out of 17 teams in this event last season, when it was known as The Bash at the Beach.
- The Bison posted rounds of 298-295-292 for a 54-hole total of 885. Oral Roberts shot 843 (-9) to win the tournament by six shots over UConn. Utah's Caden Weber was last year's medalist at 8-under 205.
- Blake Wisdom was the low Bison here last year, finishing T-14th with a 214 total (71-76-67). Barraza (78-72-71), Rudnick (75-74-76), Key (80-82-78), and Robbins (77-75-74) all played here last season.
- Bucknell heads to famed Torrey Pines on March 26-27 for the UC San Diego Invitational.
