Women's Water Polo Splits Final Day of Bruno Classic

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The Bison split its final day of contests at the Bruno Classic. Despite initially securing a lead, Marist ultimately surged ahead in the second half, clinching a 16-11 victory. The Bison came back in the nightcap to defeat Siena 13-9.Â
Game One: Marist 16 Bucknell 11
Bucknell came out with its strongest start of the season, winning the opening sprint against the Red Foxes. Sophomore Gwen Kallmeyer wasted no time earning herself a pair of back-to-back goals for the Bison to pull ahead with an early lead. Â
Marist answered back shortly after to tie the game up at 2-2. The Bison and Red Foxes went back and forth successfully scoring, and Kallmeyer was able to notch herself a hat trick to end the first quarter.Â
Sophomore Bella Schraa quickly sought to extend Bucknell's lead by scoring right from the opening sprint of the second quarter. Kallmeyer tallied two more goals for Bucknell to finish the first half with a 7-5 lead.Â
Tamara Torkos, the freshman goalie from Budapest, Hungary, showcased exceptional skill for the Bison defense today, enabling Bucknell to maintain control of the lead.
Freshman attacker Campbell Collins won her third sprint of the game to give the Bison possession at the start of the second half. However, the Red Foxes were able to go on a three-goal scoring run unanswered by the Bison to earn its first lead of the game. Both teams traded points to finish off the third quarter, the score was 12-11 as Marist scored seven to Bucknell's four.Â
Marist continued its scoring run to finish the second half of play while holding the Bison scoreless in the fourth quarter.Â
Game Two: Bucknell 13 Siena 9
Bucknell came away with its first win of the season in the nightcap against Siena.Â
