Wrestling Upended on the Road at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – A major decision for Logan Deacetis (197) and an overtime victory for Kade Davidheiser (125) helped the Bucknell wrestling team cut its deficit against Navy to just five points halfway through Saturday's dual at Alumni Hall, but the Midshipmen opened up their lead over the second half and defeated the Bison 34-7.
Navy, which dropped out of the NWCA top 25 just earlier this week, scored bonus points in four wins over the Bison and registered three pins. All four of its nationally-ranked grapplers came away victorious. Three of the bouts on Saturday, however, were deadlocked after three periods and were decided in extra time. The first was at 125 pounds, where Davidheiser scored a sudden victory takedown to defeat Grant Treaster 4-1. It was Davidheiser's first collegiate win and ended a long-standing drought at the weight class for the Bison.
At 133, No. 14 Kurt Phipps and No. 31 Brendan Ferretti were even at 1-1 after the Mids picked up a penalty point with 17 seconds to go in the third. The two went scoreless through the first overtime before Ferretti scored a reversal to break the tie and win 3-1, ending Phipps' 17-bout win streak.
Riley Bower and Kaemen Smith went beyond regulation at 149 as well, and again the Mids came away with the decision and sealed the match at 22-7. Navy went on to post pins in the final two bouts.
Deacetis' 11-2 major decision over Daniel Williams was his 17th win of the season, and he's tacked on bonus points in six of his last eight matches.
Bucknell turns around Sunday to face Columbia in New York at 1 p.m.
