NEW YORK, N.Y. – Columbia led wire-to-wire after opening Sunday's dual with three nationally-ranked wrestlers contributing to a 12-0 run. The Bison made up ground with victories at 285, 133, 149 and 157, but the Lions secured the 25-13 win at Levien Gymnasium to drop the Bucknell wrestling team to 7-6 (3-3 EIWA).
No. 20 Lenox Wolak (174) posted a decision, No. 29 Aaron Ayzerov (184) won by fall, and No. 27 Jack Wehmeyer (197) won by decision to give the Lions their initial 12-0 lead. Both Lenox and Wehmeyer were challenged, with Myles Takats putting up a late effort before suffering the 5-3 decision and Logan Deacetis losing 6-3.
No. 27 Dorian Crosby got the Bison on the board with an 18-4 major decision over Adam Haselius at 285. He registered five takedowns and nearly got a sixth in the final seconds that would've given him the tech fall.
Columbia's Nick Babin posted a tech fall at 125, but the Bison won three of the next four bouts to mount a small comeback. With Bucknell trailing 17-4, No. 14 Kurt Phipps got back in the win column with an 8-2 decision over Sulayman Bah.
Riley Bower (149) and Aiden Davis (157) both secured overtime wins for the Bison. They were the fourth and fifth times Bucknell wrestlers had gone into overtime this weekend. Bower, who lost in sudden victory at Navy on Saturday, flipped the script at Columbia and scored a takedown just 10 seconds into the extra period for the 4-1 win. Davis followed suit and defeated Tyler Barrett 4-1 40 seconds into sudden victory. It was too little too late, however, as the Lions sealed the dual with a decision by Kai Owen at 141.
Columbia brought the dual to a close with a tech fall at 165.
Bucknell concludes its road swing next Friday, Feb. 9 with a single dual at 15th-ranked Lehigh in Bethlehem. The action gets underway at 7 p.m.
