
Men's Swim & Dive Wraps Up Competition at Navy Invite

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Bucknell men's swimming & diving team turned in nine top-three finishes, including two wins, in the team's final tune-up before the Patriot League Championships, which will also take place at Lejeune Hall in Annapolis Feb. 21-24.
Senior John Gehrig and sophomore Alex Crossing both placed first in their respective events, and Gehrig went second in another individual race and swam the second leg of Bucknell's runner-up 200 freestyle relay team. Gehrig led the field in the 100 butterfly with a 48.67. It was a particularly strong event for the Bison, who took five of the top six spots. Navy went second, but Chris Kopac took third with a 50.32 and was followed by Finn Russell, Andy Dorsel and Justin DiSanto.
Crossing placed first in the 200 freestyle with a 1:40.60, beating out two Naval Academy swimmers in second and third.
Bucknell placed second in six events including a tie for second in the 50 freestyle by DiSanto, whose 20.57 matched Navy's Juan Mora. Gehrig took the runner-up spot in the 100 IM with a 51.01, and he was joined by DiSanto, Noah Basista and Drew Greene for a second-place finish in the 200 free relay (1:22.77) just behind Navy's A team.
Will Hedges went second in the 100 breaststroke (55.72), Kopac took second in the 200 IM (1:51.06), and Chris Fabian went second in the 200 backstroke (1:52.55). Kopac was also Bucknell's lone third-place finisher with a 50.32 in the 100 butterfly.
The Navy Invite was attended by American, Lafayette, Navy, Lehigh and Shippensburg.
Bucknell is off the next two weekends while it prepares for the league championships. The four-day meet begins on Wednesday, Feb. 21.
