Men’s Golf Improves on Day 2 at Palmas del Mar

RESULTS
HUMACAO, Puerto Rico – The Bucknell men's golf team chopped seven strokes off its first-round score, posting a 299 tally on Monday in the second round of the Palmas del Mar Collegiate, hosted by UNC Greensboro. Freshman Alex Creamean led the five-man Bison squad with a 1-under-par 71, while Jake Maddaloni bettered that mark with a 70 while playing as an individual.
Bucknell remains in 16th place with a 36-hole total of 605, five shots behind Samford for 15th. Host UNCG turned in a 16-under 272 on Monday, and the Spartans are now tied with Arkansas atop the team standings at 19-under 557. Kennesaw State (-15), Michigan (-8), and Rutgers (-3) round out the top five in a high-quality field.
Creamean made six birdies on the way to his seventh under-par round of his rookie year. He has now posted six red numbers in his last eight rounds dating back to the fall. Creamean started the day on the 14th hole, and he sat as low as 3-under after a birdie at the par-5 10th before a couple of late bogeys knocked him back to 1-under for the day.
James Key, who was Bucknell's low man in the opening round with a 75, carded 74 in round two. Key and Creamean are the both 5-over for the tournament. The Bison also counted 77s from Andres Barraza and Hayden Quinn.
Maddaloni had a terrific day, making five birdies on the way to the 70, which was one shot off his career best. Four of those birdies came on the course's back nine, where he shot a 3-under 33. Maddaloni is the top Bison the individual leaderboard at 2-over.
Symon Balbin of UNCG followed up his first-round 68 with a 67, and he is the individual leader at 9-under 135. Claes Borregaard of Kennesaw State shot the low round of the day with a 6-under 66. He is tied for second alongside Mercer's Tobias Johnson and Arkansas' John Driscoll at 8-under. Michigan's Hunter Thompson is two back at -7.
The third and final round is set for Tuesday morning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
