About the Bison
- The Bucknell men's golf team makes its first trip to Puerto Rico to join a stacked field for the Palmas del Mar Collegiate. The three-day, 54-hole event features seven teams listed in the top 100 in this week's NCAA/Clippd national rankings, led by No. 8 Arkansas.
- This is the first of five spring tournaments leading up to the 2024 Patriot League Championship, which will be held this year at Saucon Valley Country Club. Bucknell will prep for the championship with events in Puerto Rico, Arizona, South Carolina, California, and Ohio.
- The Bison competed in five fall tournaments, finishing in the top four in four of them while posting an average round of 292.3. Their highest finish was third at the Bucknell Invitational in October, and they finished out the fall campaign with a fourth-place showing at the Veterans Intercollegiate at Sebonack GC on Long Island.
- Freshman Alex Creamean capped a tremendous first fall season with a win at the Veterans Intercollegiate. Creamean fired a pair of 2-under-par 70s for a three-shot win, and he became the first freshman in Bucknell history to win a tournament.
- Creamean broke par in five of his last six fall rounds, lowering his season scoring average to 72.076. That was just a fraction of a stroke behind Chris Tanabe (72.066 in 2019) and Blake Wisdom (72.071) for the team record for low average in a fall season. Creamean's mark was the best-ever for a freshman in his first semester of competition.
- Creamean will take on the No. 1 spot in this week's youthful lineup in Puerto Rico, followed by sophomore Andres Barraza, sophomore James Robbins, sophomore James Key, and freshman Hayden Quinn.
- Barraza (74.3), Robbins (74.3), Quinn (74.4), and Michael Rudnick (74.8) also posted sub-75 averages in the fall. Quinn shot 68-71 in a T-3rd finish at the Cornell Invitational in his second career event.
- Next up for the Bison is the Loyola Intercollegiate at Palm Valley GC in Goodyear Ariz., on Feb. 25-27. Bucknell has played in that event twice previously, with the course known for conceding low scores.
