Women’s Water Polo Drops Contests to Wagner, Saint Francis (Pa) on Saturday

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell University women's water polo team dropped its opening two games on Saturday in its home tournament in Kinney Natatorium. The Bison dropped its morning contest against No.18 Wagner 11-3 before falling in a back-and-forth contest against Saint Francis (Pa.) in the nightcap, 8-7.
Game One: No. 18 Wagner 11, Bucknell 3
No.18 Wagner earned itself a 6-0 run in a fast start, taking an advantageous 11-3 win over the Bison in the day's first game.
Junior attacker from Barcelona, Spain, Carlota Alson, scored the first three for the Seahawks. Senior utility from Sydney, Australia, Grace Coleman had also notched two goals.
Bucknell was held scoreless until the second quarter when Caitlin Stott, a freshman from Johannesburg, South Africa, found the back of the net to put the Bison on the board.
Senior attacker Isabelle Monaghan from Lawrenceville, N.J., and sophomore attacker Bella Schraa from Greenwich, Conn., tallied the final two goals for the Bison in the second half.
Game Two: Saint Francis (Pa.) 8, Bucknell 7
It was an exciting game, with both teams trading goals back and forth throughout. Bucknell won all four of the sprints thanks to Monaghan and freshman attacker from Baltimore, Md., Campbell Collins, each of whom won two for the Bison.
Sophomore utility Caylah Olay from Redondo Beach, Ca., earned herself a hat trick in the second half for the Red Flash. Not far behind was a senior attacker from St. Charles, Ill., Emma Allamian, who notched two goals for St. Francis.
In the third quarter, Bucknell earned itself both a 5-1 run against the Red Flash and a 7-5 lead, seeing goals from Schraa, sophomore Gwen Kallmeyer, junior attacker Sidney Finkler, junior Izzy Lippolis, and Stott tallied her second goal.
Despite a two-goal deficit, the Red Flash fought hard in the fourth to regain the lead and held the Bison scoreless.
Bucknell closes out the Bucknell Invitational on Sunday with games against Mercyhurst at 9 a.m. and Villanova at 2:20 p.m.
