LEWISBURG, Pa.- One day after winning two major awards in the Patriot League, Kira Leclercq and Lily Neilson add to their collection by notching spots on the Academic All-Patriot League Team. Neilson made the team in 2023 and Leclercq is a first-time honoree.Â
Leclercq started all 16 games for the Bison and matched her impressive on-the-pitch play by maintaining a 3.75 gpa in the rigorous and demanding Geology & Environmental Geosciences major. The Berlin, Germany resident has been a bulwark on the defensive line with a nation's best nine defensive saves - a critical factor in Leclercq winning the 2024 Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year award. She has played a large role offensively with seven goals and six assists.Â
Neilson's trophy case will need to add another row as the senior deposits another academic honor after making the Patriot League Academic All-League Team in 2023. The striker, a Biology major with a 3.47 gpa, has spent her 2024 campaign shattering records setting Bucknell's career totals in goals (59) and points (124). Her 17 goals rank fifth nationally and she became the first player in PL history to lead the circuit all four years in tallies.Â
Bucknell has placed multiple student-athletes on the Academic All-Patriot League Team every year since its creation in 2010 and has the most honorees all-time at 41.
The Bison make its 17th consecutive appearance in the Patriot League tournament when they face second-seeded Lafayette in the semifinal round on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 2 p.m.
To be eligible for the Scholar-Athlete of the Year award and the Academic All-Patriot League Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen or students in their first academic year at their school are not eligible for the honor.
Â
These honors recognize student-athletes who excel in their sport and the classroom. The awards are voted on by Patriot League field hockey sports information directors, who are not eligible to vote for their student-athletes.
