Three-Set Singles Wins Highlight Men’s Tennis’ Day at River City Open

RESULTS
RICHMOND, Va. – All four Bucknell entries played three-set singles matches on day one of Richmond's River City Open on Friday, and three of them came out on the winning end. Sophomores Liam Kilmer and Will Robinson along with freshman Nelson Alapi all pulled out wins against quality opponents.
Kilmer and James Madison's Francisco Sinopoli split the first two sets, with both winning in tiebreakers. Kilmer's 7-5 verdict in the second-set tiebreaker propelled him to a dominant 10-1 win in the third-set super tiebreaker.
Robinson won his first set 6-3 against James Madison's Markus Giersiepen, dropped a second-set tiebreaker 9-7, and then won 10-3 in the third. Alapi also staved off a comeback attempt from Georgetown's Henry Williams. Alapi won the first set 6-4, Williams took the second 6-3, and then Alapi prevailed 10-5 in the third.
Freshman Oumar Diallo won the first set 6-3 against Georgetown's James O'Sullivan, but O'Sullivan rallied to win 6-1, 10-6 to advance.
All four Bison also played doubles on Friday. Alapi and Robinson fell 7-5 to JMU's Aurelien Schmitt and Esteve Auguste. Kilmer and Diallo dropped a 6-3 verdict to Arthur O'Sullivan and Adhvyte Sharma of Georgetown.
Play continues on Saturday and Sunday at Richmond.
