LEWISBURG, Pa. – A beautiful passing combo in the box between Jimmy Pombor and Drew Roskos led to the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute of the Bucknell men's soccer team's 1-0 win over Colgate, and both Bison have been honored by the Patriot League on Monday. Pombor was selected as the Patriot League Midfielder of the Week, while Roskos earned his second Rookie of the Week citation of the season.
The Bison and Raiders were still deadlocked into the final seven minutes of Saturday's match at Emmitt Field when Pombor found the breakthrough. Waldemar Kattrup sent Pombor into open space with a well-weighted lead pass. Pombor dribbled right at three Colgate players in the box and slipped a pass ahead to Roskos near the end line. Roskos avoided one had challenge and returned the ball to Pombor, who poked a shot off the inside of the left post and into the back of the net.
Pombor, a junior transfer from Lock Haven, recorded his first goal as a Bison. Eleven different players have now accounted for Bucknell's 13 goals this season. Pombor has started all 15 games this season, and in addition to his goal on Saturday, he also contributed defensively as the Bison limited the Raiders to only six total shots and just two on frame.
Roskos picked up his second assist of his freshman campaign. He also has two goals and now leads the team with six points.
The win over Colgate, combined with Boston University's draw against American, sent the Bison into sole possession of first place in the Patriot League with two games remaining in the regular season. Bucknell (6-6-3, 4-1-2 PL) has 14 points, followed by Boston University with 12 and American with 11. Five teams are tied for fourth on 10 points.
Bucknell plays at home again this Friday at 7 p.m. against Lafayette.
