Bucknell at a Glance
- Only four points separate first place from ninth place in the Patriot League standings, and with three rounds of league play remaining the postseason race really starts to heat up this weekend. Bucknell, currently the Patriot League co-leader with Boston University, hosts sixth-place Colgate on Saturday on Senior Day at Emmitt Field.
- At 3-1-2 in the PL, the Bison and Terriers sit at the top of the table (Boston University does hold the head-to-head tiebreaker). But then Loyola, Lehigh, and American are all one point back at 3-2-1, and Colgate at 2-2-2 sits precariously in the sixth and final tournament spot on eight points. Navy, Lafayette, and Holy Cross are all 2-3-1 for seven points.
- Bucknell's next two games are at home against Colgate and Lafayette, and the Bison finish the regular season at Loyola. The Bison are looking to qualify for the postseason for the first time since 2019.
- The Bison are coming off a 1-0 road win over Army on Sunday. Bucknell had most of the possession throughout the second half but didn't find a goal until Waldemar Kattrup came up with a bit of magic in the 85h minute. Kattrup's 25-yard bender to the top left corner, off assists from Cade Whitmire and Aidan Lawlor, proved to be the game-winner. The brilliant goal earned Kattrup Bison of the Week honors.
- Kattrup is one of four Bison seniors who will honored before Saturday's game. Jack Roberto, Aidan Lawlor, and Nick Prime are also in their final seasons.
- Sunday's shutout at Army was goalkeeper Freddie Lapworth's league-leading fifth of the season. Bucknell's 1.21 team goals-against average is the best in the Patriot League.
- The Bison have scored 12 goals in 14 games this season, with the tallies spread among 10 different players. Drew Roskos and Ben Sheffield have two goals each, and Kattrup, Whitmire, David Kumov, Jack Lucas, Cohen Weaver, Mason Lillis, and Cade McGrath all have one each.
- Krumov, Lucas, and Whitmire are all tied for fourth in the Patriot League with three assists.
- Roskos ranks third in the league in shots per game with 2.25.
- Sheffield leads all Bison field players in minutes played with 1,150 of a possible 1,260. Sheffield, Lapworth, and Jimmy Pombor are the only Bison to have started all 14 games this season. All told, 19 different Bucknell players have made at least one start.
- Dave Brandt is Bucknell's 14th full-time head coach and just the third dating back to 1967. Brandt, who is now in his third season at Bucknell, brought with him a remarkable career record of 354-86-40 in stints at Messiah, Navy, and Hope. Brandt won six Division III national championships at Messiah and led Navy to the 2013 Patriot League title and an NCAA Tournament first-round win.           Â
- The Raiders are 4-7-3 overall and 2-2-2 in the Patriot League. Their non-conference record includes a 1-0 win at No. 13 Virginia on Aug. 25.
- Colgate is looking to shake a four-game losing streak. After beating Holy Cross 1-0 on Oct. 5, the Raiders have dropped games to Loyola (2-1), No. 20 Cornell (4-1), Boston University (1-0), and UAlbany (3-1).
- In their most recent match on Tuesday in Albany, the Great Danes snapped a 1-1 deadlock with two second-half penalty kicks. Wade Johnson scored his first career goal for Colgate.
- Freshman Blake Pipkin leads the team with five goals, four of which have come against Patriot League opponents and the fifth against nationally ranked Cornell. Pipkin is one behind Lafayette's Roy Biegon for the Patriot League goal-scoring lead.
- Cason Stafford, Jack Beerling, and Alex St. John all have two goals apiece, and Aidan Wright has a team-high three assists.
- Oliver Townsend has started 11 of the 14 games in goal and has a 31 saves with 15 goals against.
- Colgate finished 4-3-2 and in fourth place in the Patriot League last season. The Raiders blanked Navy 2-0 in the PL Tournament quarterfinals before losing 2-0 to top-seeded Boston University in the semis.Â
- Colgate has had the better of an all-time series that dates back to 1963. The Raiders hold a 30-11-10 mark against the Bison, although Bucknell has a win and three draws in the last five meetings.
- Last season in Hamilton, Colgate won 1-0 on an Aidan Davock goal in the 54th minute. It was a defensive struggle with only 15 combined shots.
- In the most recent meeting at Emmitt Field in 2022, Bucknell and Colgate finished in a 1-1 tie. Timmy Donovan gave Colgate a 1-0 lead with a header off a corner kick 30 minutes in, but Zane Domsohn's first career goal put the Bison on level terms just 3:39 into the second half.
- Bucknell's last win over Colgate was a 1-0 verdict in Hamilton in 2021. The Bison are 0-4-2 in their last six against the Raiders at Emmitt Field. The last win in Lewisburg was 1-0 in 2012.Â
- After the Colgate game, the Bison will next host Lafayette on Friday, Nov. 1.
