Men’s Tennis Enjoys Unbeaten Day at ITA Regionals

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Bucknell men's tennis team had a banner day at the ITA Northeast Regional Championships on Friday, as Amar Tahirovic and Adam Stavrakas won their singles matches in the main draw, and both doubles teams also posted wins.
Stavrakas won twice in the qualifying round on Thursday, and he improved to 3-0 in the tournament with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Mateo Bivol of Monmouth. Next up is a date with Pablo Perez Ramos of NJIT on Saturday.
Tahirovic was able to bypass qualifying, and he started his tournament with a 6-1, 6-3 win against Alexander De Sousa from Drexel. He will take on St. Joesph's Ernesto Roy on Saturday.
The doubles draw kicked off on Friday morning, and both Bison tandems advanced. Stavrakas and Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega clipped Penn State's Loren Byers and David Lindsay, 8-6, and will next face a pair from host Penn. Tahirovic and Brendan McDonald won by the same score against Ryota Kaneda and Adam Groves of St. John's. Next up for them is a duo from Princeton.
All four Bison juniors will be in action on Saturday, with play at the ITA Regionals continuing through Monday.
