Bain, Stavrakas Alive in Doubles at ITA Regionals

RESULTS

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The doubles tandem of Adam Stavrakas and Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega advanced to the Round of 16 at the ITA Northeast Regional Championships on Saturday at the University of Pennsylvania.

All four Bison were in action on Saturday. Amar Tahirovic advanced to the Round of 16 in singles with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Saint Joseph's Ernesto Ruy, but he was clipped in three sets by fifth-seeded Loren Byers of Penn State, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4.

Stavrakas had also moved into the main draw's final 32 after three straight wins earlier in the tournament, but he fell on Saturday to eighth-seeded Pablo Perez Ramos of NJIT, 7-6, 6-3.

Stavrakas and Bain moved on in doubles with an 8-5 victory over the Penn tandem of Manfredi Graziani and Sanjeev Chundu. Next up is Delaware's Piotr Siekanowicz and Euan Mackenzie on Sunday at 9 a.m.

Tahirovic and Brendan McDonald dropped a tight 8-6 verdict to the No. 3 seed Top Nidunjanzan and Ellis Short of Princeton.
