Men's Swimming & Diving Edged by Boston University, 157.5-140.5

RESULTS
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Chris Kopac won the 100- and 200-yard freestyles and Jackson Vinarub had a huge day on the 3-meter diving board, but the Bucknell men's swimming and diving team fell just short against Boston University, 157.5-140.5 in the Bison's season-opener on Saturday at Kinney Natatorium.
Â
Bucknell won six events on the day, but the Terriers made a big run in the latter half of the meet to surge ahead. Starting with a 1-2-3 finish in the 200 backstroke, Boston University outscored the Bison 51.5-24.5 over a four-event stretch. Wins from Vinarub in the 3-meter dive and Andy Dorsel in the 200 individual medley kept the Bison in it, but they would have needed a 1-2 finish in the meet-ending 400 free relay to pull out a one-point win, and the Terriers iced it with a close win by just .77 seconds.
Â
Vinarub's 307.8 score on the 3-meter board was not only good for a 21-point win, but his PR moved him up to the No. 2 spot in team history. The only better mark came from record-holder David Magaro at the 2011 Patriot League Championships. Vinarub also finished second on the 1-meter board (281.48), and Connor Thurston was third with a score of 268.73 that fell just outside the top-10.
Â
Bucknell started the day by winning the 200 medley relay, with Avery Kuhn, Will Hedges, Finn Russell, and Justin DiSanto edging the Terriers' quartet by a mere four-hundredths of a second. DiSanto's 20.29 anchor brought the Bison back from behind.
Â
DiSanto later won the 50 free, was second to Kopac in the 100 free by just .25 seconds, and led off the 400 free relay.
Â
Kopac and freshman Damian Czartoryjski went 1-2 in the 200 free. Alex Crossing had a solid meet in the distance free events, finishing second in both the 500 and 1000. The 500 was one of the best races of the day, as Giovanni Sullo edged Crossing by just .19 seconds.
Â
Sullo, Jonny Farber, and Justin Liao won two events each for the Terriers.
Â
Bucknell is back in action next Saturday at its Fall Invitational at Kinney Natatorium.
