LEWISBURG, Pa.- Ashley Sofilkanich continues her ascending freshman campaign by winning her third Patriot League PenFed Credit Union Women's Rookie of the Week award as announced by the league office Monday. The forward collected 41 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 blocks in the two contests against Army and Navy. Â
"Ashley is seeing the rewards of her hard work," said head coach Trevor Woodruff. "We are proud of the strides she is making."Â
The freshman dominated the paint against the tough Midshipmen defense. Sofilkanich scored 21 points on 8-of-19 shooting and went 5-of-6 from the charity stripe to keep Bucknell within striking distance of the Naval Academy. She added six rebounds, two blocked shots, and a steal to the stat sheet.Â
Against Army, Sofilkanich was a colossus at the post positions. She scored 20 points on a smooth 9-of-15 shooting from the field and 2-of-5 from the free throw line. Her highlight contributions came on the defensive side, blocking eight Army aerials. It was the most blocked shots by a Bison all season. She pulled down seven rebounds and facilitated three assists.Â
Sofilkanich has developed into one of the Patriot League's brightest young stars. She ranks second in the Patriot League in blocks (2.1) and 14th in points (11.6). She ranks first on the Bison in blocks, second in points and rebounds (5.3), and third in shooting percentage (.430).Â
The Bucknell women's basketball program is no stranger to Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors. The Bison entered the 2023-24 season with 90 all-time laurels, most in Patriot League history. Sofilkanich's three are the most since Cecilia Collins earned four in 2021-22. The 2013-14 team earned ten, with Claire DeBoer notching eight. DeBour and Lindsey Hollobaugh (2003-24) share the Bison and Patriot League record with eight in a season.
