LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell women's swimmer Caroline McGann has been selected to participate in this year's Women's Sports Foundation and NBC Sports Student-Athlete Mentoring Program. The program is designed to inspire and support women collegiate student-athletes in translating the valuable skills they've acquired through competition into successful careers.
McGann is the first from Bucknell to be chosen for this unique initiative, which is now in its fifth year. She is one of 20 student-athletes across nine sports from 12 colleges and universities that will be paired up with an NBC Sports mentor throughout the semester. The mentors are from a diverse range of professional backgrounds that include legal, human resources, marketing, communications, operations, IT, finance, sales and media production.
Through the program, participants are able to engage in career development, networking, personal branding, interviewing skills and interpersonal communications. Mentors work to share professional experiences and provide insight. The Women's Sports Foundation will facilitate monthly sessions, and the student-athletes will work together to complete a semester-long group project.
McGann, a senior economics and geography major, has been paired with mentor Chris Anderson, who serves as the Senior Director for Sales & Account Management at NBC Sports Next.
"The group has only met twice thus far, so we are still in the early stages of the mentorship program, but it has been such a unique experience already," McGann said. "As mentees and mentors, we have been paired up in small groups to create a media campaign driving awareness specific to college athletics. Being able to work with students from other universities across the country, and some fellow Patriot League athletes, I'm super excited to get the ball rolling on this project."
At the end of the program the group will have the opportunity to pitch the project at the culmination event in May at NBC Sports Headquarters.
"I am so grateful to have been selected for this program. Having the opportunity to connect with amazing people from all different backgrounds and learn from one another means so much to me, and I'm excited to continue with the program," said McGann.
McGann has built an exceptional resume during her time at Bucknell as a two-year Student-Athlete Advisory Committee Executive Board member and the 2023-24 SAAC President. She serves as a mentor for the College of Arts and Sciences, is a member of the Women in Economics Club, and helped form Bucknell's Morgan's Message chapter.
A co-captain for the women's swim & dive team, McGann earned Second Team All-League honors at last year's Patriot League Championships and was voted to the Academic All-Patriot League Team.
