Volleyball Sweeps Loyola (Md.) to Conclude Weekend in the Old Line State

BALTIMORE, Md.- The Bucknell Bison volleyball team (7-8, 3-3 PL) concluded a weekend in the Old Line State with a sweep (27-25, 25-23, 25-23) of Loyola (Md.) (6-9, 1-4 PL). Bucknell won the first set and kept the momentum going to finish off the Greyhounds in minimum sets. Catherine Jamison led the team with 12 kills. It was the first conference sweep since Holy Cross last season and the first road conference sweep since at Loyola (Md.) on Nov. 17, 2015.
Recap
The first set started back and forth as the Greyhounds scratched out a 6-5 advantage. Bucknell seized the lead with a 5-0 run powered by two kills each from Bri Frazilus and Jamison. Loyola fought back to tie it at 15-15. The Bison regained the lead at 18-15. The Greyhounds once again grabbed the advantage and, at 24-23, were about to win the set. A Loyola attack error and a Riley Tucker kill gave Bucknell the edge. Loyola tied it up, but kills from the Frazilus-Jamison duo ended the set for Bucknell.
The second set was all Loyola to begin as the Greyhounds raced out to an 8-0 lead. Bucknell regrouped and used an 11-3 run to tie up the contest and restart the set. The squads alternated points until the score was 18-18. Bucknell slipped ahead 22-19, but the Greyhounds counterattacked to tie the set at 23-23. The Bison proved more resilient, using a Jamison kill and an assisted block by Jamison and Riley Tucker to win the set.
The final set continued the same trend as both teams battled on even terms. The first portion saw a duel with both teams deadlocked at 9-9. Bucknell used a mini-run to zoom ahead 13-10. Loyola, fighting hard, scratched its way back into the lead at 17-15. With the score at 20-20 vision, both teams traded points until it became 23-23, which set the stage for more Bucknell dramatics. Or, more accurately, two Sidney Shaffer blocks as the freshman teamed up with Cameron Lloyd and Caleigh O'Connell to collect the set and match win.
