
Volleyball Falls in Four Sets to American

LEWISBURG, Pa.- The Bucknell Bison women's volleyball team (7-9, 3-4 PL) fell in four sets (24-26, 11-25, 25-22, 25-23) to the visiting American Eagles (11-7, 4-2 PL) on Friday night. The match's momentum shifted to the Eagles after the Bison could not close the first set. Bucknell rallied to force a fourth set, but American closed the deal to win the game.Â

The Eagles flew out to an early 4-1 lead to begin the game. The Bison countered to inch within one point, 9-8. American scored twice for the 11-8 before Bucknell used a pivotal 5-0 stretch powered by three kills to take the lead. Bucknell increased its advantage to 20-14 and remained ahead 22-17, seemingly poised to take the first set. However, the visitors from Washington D.C. rallied to tie the set at 23-23. A Catherine Jamison kill had the Bison at set point, but American used a 3-0 run to take the opening stanza.Â
American carried the momentum into the second set by bolting out to a 10-2 advantage. The lead expanded to 17-5 before Bucknell could gather and regroup the forces. The Bison cut the deficit to 20-9, but the Eagles ended the set on a 5-2 run to take a 2-0 lead.Â
The Bison were determined to extend the game and blasted out to a 7-2 advantage to start the third set. However, American was undaunted and rallied back to take a 9-8 lead. The Bison retook the lead at 12-11 before shifting fortune smiled upon the Eagles to a 16-14 edge. The Bison went on a 6-0 run to seize a lead they would not yield. American cut the margin to one point (23-22), but Bucknell used an American service error and a Cameron Lloyd kill to win 25-23.Â
The Eagles jumped to an 8-3 lead to commence the fourth set. Bucknell battled back to a 9-7 deficit, but American stretched ahead to 15-9 and seemed ready to close the gates. The Bison kept storming back but could not inch above or draw even with the visiting team. With the score 24-21 American, Bucknell obtained two points to attempt one final rally, but an American kill ended the set and match.Â
