LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell junior Aneesh Vyas was named the Patriot League Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday, becoming the first Bison football player to earn a weekly award this season. Vyas blocked two kicks in Saturday's game against Penn.
Playing at the center of the line, Vyas jumped up to get his hands on both a 33-yard field goal and an extra point, denying the Quakers a total of four points in the contest. He also registered three tackles in the game after making his first start of the season at defensive tackle.
Vyas has now blocked five kicks over the last two seasons. He's the first Bison to block multiple kicks in a game since Gerrit Van Itallie in 2018. Bucknell has blocked three kicks this season as a team, as Jack Goheen blocked a punt during the VMI victory.
Additionally, safety John Schlendorf received an honorable mention for Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week, and Eric Weatherly was an honorable mention for Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week. Schlendorf led all players with 14 tackles, one tackle for a loss and a pass breakup. Weatherly recorded six receptions for 95 yards and two touchdowns.
The Bison begin Patriot League play on Saturday, Sept. 30 with a trip to Lafayette.
