Â
BOARDMAN, Ohio – Freshman Sofia Nogalo birdied three of her final five holes, including a dramatic birdie at the par-5 18th to finish in a share of the lead at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational, hosted by Youngstown State. Cristina Canales also finished in the top 10 as Bucknell capped off another impressive September showing. The Bison finished in fourth place in a 10-team field with a 36-hole total of 615.
Â
Nogalo was the overnight leader after making six birdies on the way to an opening-round, 2-under-par 70. In Sunday's second round, Nogalo fell two shots behind before back-to-back birdies at 14 and 15 brought her back into a share of the lead. A bogey at 17 dropped her one back, but she responded with a clutch two-putt birdie at the par-5 18th to finish with a 74 and pull back into a tie with Detroit Mercy's Ariel Chang at even-par 144 for the tournament.
Â
Chang had the lower second-round score (71) and thus claimed medalist honors on tournament criteria. Regardless, it was another terrific showing for Nogalo, who now has top-three finishes in two of her first three collegiate tournaments. She finished T-3rd at the Bucknell Invitational to start the campaign.
Â
Youngstown State's Neeranuch Prajunpanich finished third with a 1-over 145.
Â
Canales carded two birdies and 13 pars on the way to her 2-over 74, and she finished in a tie for ninth place at 151. Bucknell also counted a 78 from Katherine Vice and an 83 from Nicole Yun on the way to the second-round 309.
Â
Youngstown State finished with a 291 to clip Cleveland State by one shot for the team title. The Penguins compiled a 36-hole total of 599. Indiana State was third at 606, followed by Bucknell at 615 and Detroit Mercy at 619.
Â
Bucknell's best round of the day actually came from Kayla Yi, who was playing as an individual. She made four birdies on the way to a 3-under 33 on the back nine, giving her a 1-over 73 on the day and a T-14th finish. Twin sister Kelsey Yi finished with a 79.
Â
The Bison are back in action next weekend at the Navy Fall Invitational.
