Men’s Tennis Goes 15-1 on Opening Day of NateRentals.com Binghamton Championships

RESULTS
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Bucknell men's tennis team continued its torrid play in fall tournament action, winning 15 of 16 singles matches on day one of the NateRentals.com Binghamton Championships. Seven of the team's eight players have advanced to their respective singles flight championships, and the Bison are now 47-7 in singles on the season.
The Lane Singles Flight is the top flight, and Bison sophomore Amar Tahirovic remained unbeaten on the season with two straight-set wins. He opened with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Siena's Fabio Varela and then defeated Cheng Tang of Buffalo 6-3, 6-3. Tahirovic will take on Tanner Bedard of Niagara in the final.
Adam Stavrakas is now 7-0 this fall after posting two one-sided victories in the Starke (B) Draw. He ran past Le Moyne's Luka Stojanovic 6-2, 6-0 in the opening round and then ousted Binghamton's Kyle Weekes 6-3, 6-2. Next up for Stavrakas in the final is Binghamton's Ronin Lotlikar, who won a three-setter in the semis.
In the Pollard (C) Draw, Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega defeated Binghamton's James McPherson 6-1, 7-5 and Colgate's Benito Vlassis 6-3, 6-2 to reach the final, where he will face either Theodoris Mitsakos of Buffalo or Filipe Costa of Binghamton.
In the Roher (D) Draw, Brendan McDonald downed Army's Alan Ton 6-3, 6-4, and reached the final with another win over Buffalo's Finn Macnamara, 7-5, 6-3. He was down 0-3 in the second set before winning six straight games.
In the Noble (E) Draw, freshman Liam Kilmer cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win over Army's Anthony Shalakov and followed with another victory over Le Moyne's Alvaro Nunez, 6-4, 6-4. In the Sussman (F) Draw, Tim Zelikovsky posted straight-set wins over Niagara's Bryce Bodak, 6-4, 6-3, and Siena's Dylan Breen, 6-1, 6-2.
Freshman Ethan Esclamado dropped his opening-round match to Binghamton's Matthew Carlson in the Nath (G) Draw but came back to beat Paul Roberts of Army in the consolation round. Freshman Will Robinson won twice in the Shutter (H) Draw. He raced past Xavier Branagan of Le Moyne 6-2, 6-3 followed by another straight-set win over Mike Weitz of Colgate, 6-3, 7-5.
The three-day tournament continues on Saturday morning.
