About the Bison
- Bucknell is set for its third of five fall tournaments this weekend as it heads to Yale for the Macdonald Cup.
- The Bison will have a young lineup on the course this weekend with two freshmen (Hayden Quinn, Alex Creamean), two sophomores (Andres Barraza, James Key), and a junior (Jake Maddaloni). Junior Michael Rudnick, who missed the first two events of the season due to an injury, will make his debut this weekend as an individual.
- Bucknell has finished in fourth place in both of its tournaments thus far. The Bison were fourth out of 13 teams at Colgate's Alex Lagowitz Memorial, and most recently they placed fourth out of 11 teams at the Cornell Invitational at Watchung Valley CC in New Jersey.
- Quinn was the low Bison in Cornell's event, finishing T-3rd with rounds of 68-71 for a 3-under total of 139. Key posted an even-par 71 in the first round, and Barraza did the same in round two.
- Bucknell's average team score is 290.8 through five rounds, with a low of 1-under 287 in round two at Colgate.
- Quinn's 72.6 average leads the team, just ahead of James Robbins at 73.6. All seven Bison who have seen action thus far are averaging 75.3 or better.
- The Bison have competed at the Macdonald Cup in five of the last six years, with the 2020 edition canceled due to COVID-19. Bucknell has also made numerous appearances at Yale's spring tournament through the years.
- At the Macdonald Cup, the Bison placed 10th in 2017, ninth in 2018, fourth in 2019, 11th in 2021, and ninth last year.
- Last year's event was a play-6, count-5 format, with Minnesota holding off Harvard by two strokes to claim the title. Yale, Richmond, and Michigan rounded out the top five in a strong field.
- Jackson Bussell was Bucknell's best finisher last season, finishing 12th with an even-par 210 (69-72-69). Among this year's returnees, Andres Barraza (73-70-75), James Key (76-79-70), and Michael Rudnick (78-76-73) were in the lineup at Yale last season.
- Bucknell won Yale's spring invitational in April 2016 with rounds of 295-300. John Edler was the runner-up individually, while Connor O'Brien (T-9th, 73-76) also finished in the top 10. The Bison were also runner-up there in the spring of 2019.Â
- Bucknell played at Yale six times between 1972-80, twice at the Eastern Championships and four times in Yale's fall invitational. The team's best finish was eighth in Yale's event in the fall of 1978.Â
- Bucknell will close out the fall season by hosting two tournaments in the month of October. The Bucknell Invitational will be contested in Lewisburg on Oct. 8-10, and the Bison will also host the Veterans Intercollegiate at Sebonack GC on Long Island on Oct. 30-31.
