About the Bison
- Bucknell has a quick turnaround coming off a T-4th finish at the Hornet Classic at Rehoboth Beach on Monday and Tuesday. Sofia Nogalo, Cristina Canales, Katherine Vice, Nicole Yun, and Tara Thomas will be in the lineup at Youngstown State's tournament this weekend. Kayla Yi and Kelsey Yi will tee it up as individuals.
- The Bison have played some excellent golf over the first two weeks of the season and have a 303.3 team average through six rounds. Bucknell set 18- (292), 36- (591), and 54-hole (896) school records on the way to a runner-up finish at its home tournament on Sept. 9-10, and then earlier this week the Bison posted rounds of 311-304-309 in the T-4th finish at Kings Creek CC.
- Sophomore Paige Richter gets this weekend off, but she once again leads the team with a 75.3 scoring average after shooting 74-75-74 in a 10th-place finish at Rehoboth Beach. Richter was the team's top performer last season as a freshman. Her 75.7 spring average and 76.2 mark for the full 2022-23 campaign were team bests. Last spring, she finished third at the SMSU Spring Classic in Arizona, fourth at the Navy Spring Invitational, and T-7th at her first Patriot League Championship. Eleven of her 12 spring rounds were in the 70s, including three 72s.
- Freshmen Sofia Nogalo (76.0), Nicole Yun (76.0), Lila Smith (78.0), and Katherine Vice (79.3) all have scoring averages in the 70s and have all had stellar rounds thus far. Nogalo was the low Bison at the Bucknell Invitational, shooting 72-77-72 in a T-3rd finish. Smith broke the school record with a second-round 68 in that event, and Yun opened with a 71. Vice's final-round 75 in Delaware was her best to date.
- This will be Bucknell's second appearance in Youngstown State's fall tournament, with the other coming in 2021.
- The Bison finished eighth out of 14 teams two years ago with rounds of 315-316. Tatum McKelvey led the squad with a T-18th finish with rounds of 80-74. Â Â
- Tara Thomas was the only Bison in this week's lineup who played here two seasons ago. Thomas, playing as an individual that week, shot 77-78 and placed T-23rd.
- Youngstown State is the defending champion. The Penguins rolled to a 24-shot victory over runner-up Bellarmine last season.
- The event is named in honor of Roseann Schwartz, who was YSU's women's golf coach from 1996 until 2013. Schwartz led the Penguins to 33 tournament victories and two Horizon League titles during her tenure. She was inducted into the YSU Athletics Hall of Fame in 2021.Â
- Bucknell is back in action Sept. 30-Oct. 1 at the Navy Invitational.
- Bucknell will celebrate its 25th anniversary with a special event on Oct. 13-14. On Friday, Oct. 13, there will be a reception and meet-and-greet with the current team from 7-9 p.m. at the Bachman Golf Center. The next day, guests may take part in a round of golf at the Bucknell Golf Club, starting with a 9 a.m. shotgun. Following the golf tournament, there will be a luncheon at the clubhouse, where the achievements of the Bison women's golf program will be celebrated.
- This is also the 10-year anniversary of the team's 2014 Patriot League championship.
