Women’s Golf Finishes T-4th in Strong Showing at Hornet Classic

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – Led by a top-10 finish from sophomore Paige Richter, the Bucknell women's golf team tied for fourth place out of 14 teams at the Hornet Classic, which wrapped on Tuesday at Kings Creek Country Club. Richter paced the Bison with a final-round 74 after shooting 74-75 on Monday, and she finished alone in 10th place with a 54-hole total of 223.
The Bison posted rounds of 311-304 on Monday, and they finished up with a 309 for a 924 total. That matched Long Island for fourth-best in the field, and it was the eighth-best 54-hole tournament in team history.
Howard claimed the title with an 873 composite (293-283-297), 13 shots better than runner-up Sacred Heart. Lehigh was third at 902, followed by Bucknell and LIU at 924. Host Delaware State was two strokes back in sixth place.
Richter made three birdies on the way to a 1-under 35 on the back nine. Freshman Katherine Vice had the best round of her young career with a 75, and the Bison also counted 80s from senior Cristina Canales and freshman Sofia Nogalo.
Margot Rouquette of Sacred Heart was the medalist with an even-par 213 (72-70-71). Teammate Chantal El Chaib also closed with a 71 and finished two shots back, while Howard players finished 3-4-5.
The Bison are right back in action this weekend at the Roseann Schwartz Invitational, hosted by Youngstown State at Mill Creek GC in Boardman, Ohio.
