WATCHUNG, N.J. – Freshman Hayden Quinn backed up his opening-round 68 with an even-par 71 on Monday, and his T-3rd finish helped the Bucknell men's golf team to a fourth-place standing out of 11 teams at the Cornell Invitational. The Bison compiled team scores of 290 and 288 to finish at 578 (+10) for the rain-shortened 36-hole event.
Quinn, coming off a final-round 72 at Colgate last week, picked up where he left off and finished at 3-under at Watchung Valley GC. Quinn made five birdies on the way to a sensational 31 on the course's back nine during his opening-round 68. On Monday, he posted a 2-under 34 on the front side on the way to the 71. He joined three other players at 3-under for the tournament, three shots behind champion Matt Ferrari of Siena and one in back of runner-up Kevin Hollomon of Colgate.
Siena won the team crown with a 10-under total of 558, 15 shots better than second-place Temple. Colgate (574), Bucknell, and Cornell (579) rounded out the top five.
Quinn and fellow freshman Alex Creamean were the only Bison able to finish their first rounds before darkness fell on Sunday evening. Creamean, who posted a 2-under 70 last week at Colgate, opened with a 72 before carding a 79 in round two.
Andres Barraza joined Quinn for low Bison honors on Monday with an even-par 71, which followed his first-round 78. Also for Bucknell, Jake Maddaloni shot 75-72 and James Robbins posted 75-74. James Key, playing as an individual, shot 71-78. His first-round 71 was a career best.
The Bison are back in action in two weeks at the Macdonald Cup, hosted by Yale.
