2023-24 WOMEN'S BASKETBALL SCHEDULE
LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's basketball team announced its 2023-24 schedule on Tuesday, and head coach Trevor Woodruff's fifth season at the controls features a challenging assortment of non-conference foes and traditional Patriot League opponents. Five non-league challengers had winning records in 2022-23, four won 20 games or more, three played in the WNIT, and two made the NCAA Tournament.
Season tickets are now on sale through the Bucknell Campus Box Office, including packages for women's games, men's games, and a combination of both.
Season-ticket holders receive priority opportunities to purchase Patriot League Tournament and NCAA Tournament tickets. As a special incentive, the first 300 men's or combo season-ticket purchasers will also receive a limited-edition orange and blue Bison scarf to wear and display with pride at Sojka Pavilion.
Single-game tickets will also go on sale on Sept. 6.
"The number one goal is to win the Patriot League championship, and we use the non-conference schedule to prepare us for that goal," said Woodruff. "We always take an aggressive approach with our schedule and this year is no different. There will be no easy nights for our young team but we look forward to the challenge and seeing what we can become."
The season opens with road matches against two Keystone State foes Penn State and Temple. Penn State serves as the opening day opponent on Tuesday, Nov. 7, and the game with Temple follows on Veterans Day (Nov. 11). The Bison first faced Penn State in the Orange & Blue's inaugural season of 1973-74. Penn State went 14-17 in 2022-23. This is the third straight season Bucknell has played Temple. The Owls finished last season 11-18.
The Bison commence the home portion of the schedule on Wednesday, Nov. 15, when they welcome the Knights of Fairleigh Dickinson to Sojka Pavilion. FDU notched 24 wins and lost in the WNIT in 2022-23.
Then it is a trip to the Bluegrass State to duel national powerhouse Louisville on Nov. 19, followed by a game against Western Kentucky on Nov. 21. Louisville went 26-12 and made the Elite Eight before losing to Iowa in 2022-23. The Hilltoppers were 19-14 last year with a loss to Kansas in the WNIT.
Robert Morris visits Sojka Pavilion on Nov. 24 for a Black Friday special and the start of three straight home games. Saint Joseph's travels to Lewisburg on Nov. 28 to continue the homestand. The Philadelphia foe collected 20 wins and fell to Seton Hall in the WNIT last year.
Cornell finishes the stretch of home games on Dec. 2 by returning the matchup of last year's epic overtime game that the Bison won 68-58 in Ithaca.
On Dec. 5, Bucknell travels south on US 15 to play MAAC foe Mount St. Mary's, and then after nearly two weeks off for final exams, the Bison continue the non-conference schedule with a home match against Merrimack on Dec. 17. The Warriors completed last season with a 15-16 mark.
The non-conference schedule concludes with a marquee matchup at Marquette on Dec. 21. The Golden Eagles earned a 21-11 record in 2022-23 with a narrow first-round loss to South Florida in the NCAA Tournament.
Patriot League play begins on Jan. 3 with a road game against the reigning conference champion Holy Cross. After a trip to American, the 2022 champion, Bucknell's first Patriot League home encounter comes against Lehigh on Jan. 10.
The Patriot League Tournament gets underway with first-round games on March 9.
