Shot Putters Lead Bison in Fifth Place Finish at Patriot League Championships

BETHLEHEM, Pa.- The Bucknell Bison men's track & field team collected 67.2 points to finish fifth in the Patriot League Outdoor Championships.

"After a rough first day in which we had a few things go wrong, our men bounced back and fought hard to finish a respectable fifth as a team," said head coach Kevin Donner. "Our shot putters got us off to a great start this morning and got some much-needed momentum. I was pleased with our relays this weekend."
The Bison dominated the shot put, earning the second, third, and sixth-place finishes to collect 17 points. All three throwers set personal bests to establish a presence in the Bison top ten. Anthony Zamarra led the way, placing second on a heave of 56-0 ½ to keep second all-time in the Bucknell annals and score eight points. Wade Shomper finished third in the event and in Bucknell history on his toss of 55-11 ¾ to grab six points. Braden Stryker placed sixth on a throw of 54-1 ¾ to score three points. His mark inserted him into fifth in the Bucknell record book. Â
Samuel Whittaker completed his final Patriot League Outdoor Championship with a fourth-place finish in the 1500-meter run. The senior runner raced for a time of 3:48.28 to earn four points and improve upon his fifth-best time in Bison history.
Noah Martin finished fifth in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:01.63. The mark puts the senior at 10th all-time in the Bucknell record book.
Brandon Foust placed fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.69 to score four points for the Bucknell cause.
Gardy Philogene, Matthew Perello, Colby Belczyk, and Brandon Foust teamed up in the 4x400-meter relay to finish third with a time of 3:17.25. The quartet's finish netted Bucknell six points.
The 4x100-meter relay quartet of Cooper Hyken, Brayden Young, Matthew Perello, and Brandon Foust missed the Bucknell top ten by a mere 0.06 seconds, but their time of 41.58 gave them fourth place and the Bison five points.
Two Bison placed in the high jump. Jeffrey Cianfrocca grabbed five points on his fourth-place leap of 6-7. Tristan An tied for sixth place on a jump of 6-5 with other four jumpers to earn 1.2 points.
The throwers continued their strong group showing by earning nine points in the discus throw. Braden Stryker finished fifth on a toss of 157-7 to obtain four points. Wade Shomper continued his impressive inaugural outdoor championships placing sixth on a throw of 153-5 to score three points. Keenan LaMontagne grabbed seventh on a chuck of 150-4 to supply two points.
Chris Sims narrowly missed the entry into the Bucknell top ten with his triple jump performance. Sims placed fifth on a leap of 47-1 to give Bucknell four points.
Franco Perinotti finished seventh in the decathlon with 5225 points. The senior's effort added two ducats to the Bison coffers.
