Wade Shomper Named Academic All-Patriot League

LEWISBURG, Pa.- Wade Shomper continued his mastery of academic and athletic prowess with the Patriot League voters naming him to the conference's All-Academic Team, as announced Wednesday. It marks the third straight indoor season that Shomper has received the laurel.

Shomper, an International Relations and Economics major, recorded a fall semester grade of 3.66 and holds an impressive 3.78 cumulative GPA. After winning silver in the shot put at last year's indoor leagues, he upset the number one seed to claim gold at this season's Patriot League Indoor Championships.

His throw of 18.22m (59-9.50) reset his school record and ranks 60th nationally. Shomper brought his A-game against a difficult and deep field of competition. He eclipsed 17 meters on every toss and finally broke the 18-meter barrier on his third attempt. Army's Matthew Palchak passed him for first during the fifth round before Shomper immediately regained his throne with the 18.22 throw. Palchak's final toss fell short and Shomper and his Bison teammates, who were the toast of the meet for their celebrations, filled Boston Track & Tennis Center with ringing cheers and declarations of victory.

Shomper's feat represented the Bucknell men's first gold medal since Jeff Brown won the 60-meter dash in 2020. The senior owns the school record in both the indoor and outdoor shot put and won gold in the event at the 2025 Outdoor Championships. He firmly established himself as the program's greatest shot put thrower.

Bucknell track & field opens the outdoor season later this month.
